I have one like the Shelton one. This is all going to make Ling cod fishing tougher and the kids will be crushed.  I fish in low fishing-pressure area, its sad to see another fishery close.

There was a DFO rockfish conservation booth at this year's outdoor show in Abbotsford. They were giving out free SeaQualizer descenders to anyone willing to fill out a 2 minute questionnaire about their fishing habits. Pretty good deal, especially as they're required kit

Bananas, I'm sure your kids will be fine. Just dedicate a crappy/broken rod for descending and put the most quarrelsome child on descending duty

Okay - anyone got any great tips on making ling fishing more "selective" - so as to avoid the Yelloweye altogether?

Instead of staying in a spot after catching a few yelloweye and keep pounding on them you just move on to another spot.

Fish for lingcod in shallower spots where big yelloweyes are usually not present, and use big swimbaits like the Gibbs Delta Power Paddles. That's how we usually avoid getting rockfish while targeting lingcod.

Thanks Rod - I'll have a watch of that this evening.  Shallower may be hard where I fish, but every little helps.
