Just wondering, does anyone use a fiberglass rod for float fishing these days?  Does anyone make a good quality 10+ foot fiberglass rod that is suitable?  After trolling for sockeye with my Eagle Claw Kokanee rod, I must say I love the soft feel on these fish.  I could certainly see using a fiberglass rod for coho or pinks since I have had a hard time finding a slow action graphite float rod that is light enough (they don't make my favorite model of Shimano Convergence anymore).

Rain shadow bp1264 blank I believe is a composite ...not 100% sure but I have two built as centerpins....they are really good as float rods

Lamiglas makes some fine fiberglass blanks.  Look into their classic E-glass series.   I used to have a 10'6" glass float rod that I regret getting rid of.  Great action when fighting a fish and they are strong as heck.

I have a Fenwick 1264 Matrix composite that I built for center pin. love it, but it is more weight. I was thinking to tear it down and build a different handle onto it, as it is put together with white glue and masking tape filler, no epoxy. I don't center pin anymore.
I also have a fiberglass 1264, brown blank, that I have not used in years, great shape. standard handle. salt or fresh water reel seats on both, Fuji size 20.

Lamiglas makes some fine fiberglass blanks.  Look into their classic E-glass series.   I used to have a 10'6" glass float rod that I regret getting rid of.  Great action when fighting a fish and they are strong as heck.

Sounds like a great rod.  Looks like they don't make anything longer than 9 feet now.

I have had a few different Fenwick glass rods built with sliding reel seats so back in the day I could use either a center pin, baitcast or saltwater mooch with them.
I still have 2 1piece honey colored 1264's. One has been cut back from the tip to make it a little heavier action. I have 2 brown 1264 2piece rods. A 2 piece honey 1263 that was originally a one piece that I cut and put a spigot ferrule in. Last but not least a honey colored 2pc 1262. All these blanks are 35+ years old but still good working rods.

Wow, googling suggests that the 1263 was already a super rare rod as of 15 years ago.  Were these normally a 1 piece rod?

I can't think of any rod maker that makes a suitable stock production glass rod or blank. I would suggest you do some research on smaller rod makers and contact them - shoot Lamiglass an inquiry if you haven't already.

Second suggestion is to contact custom rod makers like Brian Babcock or some of the outfits in the Great Lakes area that specialize in centre pin and float rods - you may find a custom maker who does glass rods or has access to a supply of blanks.

i think berrys bait still carries lamiglass rods. they get the blanks and custom build them. friend of mine had one for his salt set up.

"Back in the day" you could order Honey Yellow or Brown blanks and get either 1 piece or a 2 piece blank with a "Fenglass" ferrule.
