I am not personally connected to ANTIFA, so I just go by what I read ( as I’m sure is your case too) but ANTIFA is not a Trump/right construct. Its’ presence in the US predates the current administration, however it certainly has become more visible in the past 4 yrs.
However, I don’t have a dog in this fight, and I think we both agree that Trump is not fit to be the leader of a country and needs to lose the election.
First I didn't say it was a Trump/RW construct. I said they made it up as an organization and some sort of threat to public safety. Let me quote your own rather muddled words:"...
it doesn’t appear to be an organized organization (it has been referred to as a “
loose movement”), it is an entity with roots in Europe, and more recently in North America."
If it's not organized then it can't be an organization. Likewise what is a "loose movement"? Feminism certainly is and has been a movement but certainly not an organization of and in itself.
I can also refer to Wikipedia's rather amorphous first sentences on it's ANTIFA (USA) article:
[Antifa] is an anti-fascist action and left-wing political movement in the United States[2][3][4][5] comprising an array of autonomous[6][7] groups and individuals that aim to achieve their objectives through the use of both nonviolent and violent direct action rather than through policy reform.[8][9][10][11] A highly decentralized movement, antifa political activists are anti-racists[12] who engage in protest tactics, seeking to combat fascists and racists such as neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other far-right extremists
An "array of autonomous groups and individuals"...can it get anymore diffuse than that? Frankly I think that many of those groups themselves are so obscure Wikipedia doesn't even name any organized groups associated with ANTIFA or even individuals. How can it even approach being "a movement "? The article really just discusses the use of the phrase and doesn't attempt to answer is it real and who leads it and what groups or people does it comprise
Yet AG Bill Barr has described it as a "ramrod of violence" and there has been suggestions it be declared a terrorist organization and thus be made illegal. Can straw men be declared illegal? That is an utter fabrication.
This ANTIFA controversy has a flavor very much like the Satanic Ritual cults of 40 years or so ago. Tens of millions both in the US and here believed in these and were deathly afraid. Thousands of people suspected and even charged had their life ruined now it's recognized as just a case of mass hysteria. I think we are in a similar situation today.
BTW right now it looks like a toss up that Trump will be out of office.
