Peg Aug 16th
« on: August 16, 2004, 08:29:04 PM »

Took the day off and man am I glad I did...tons of springs moving thru.  Our party of 3 ended up with 3 reds 15-20lb and 5 socs.  I personally hooked 5 springs...they really seemed to be stacking up.

All the socs had net marks so I think we are still in a commercial window.

If it makes u guys feel any better, a family friend who does contract work with dfo  confirmed that this is the lowest year in a 4 year cycle and next year is a peak year which includes the Horsefly run!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you guys don't know about that the horsefly socs, they are like thompson steelhead...huge pigs!  We were trolling them in the chuck many years back and getting 10-12 lb average with a few at 14!  Its going to be mayhem next summer.

Camped Peg Leg last night. First one at the hotspot. First cast 5:06am. Fished ten minutes, nobody was getting anything. If i've learned anything, 50 guys aren't getting anything there, then there isn't anything there. I take a step back from my spot and fall asleep for about an hour. I awake to my buddy with a Spring on. He lost it. I hear fish-on a bunch of times so it's time to get back in the game. 2 casts in, I land my first sock. At that point I was so tired I told myself I would fish some more but happy if I didn't get anything else. Ended up just cleaning the fish and bringing the family home.
Fish with a few of the old guys I have seen around, they're alot of fun. Hope to fish with them again. Oh, and I met fishinchick. Nice to meet you fishinchick.

hey bn,
just after ya left, I finally landed 2!!!  Nice meetin you and your family too!  btw, anyone going tomorrow?  I'll be there as soon as the gates open.  be sure to say hi, I'll be wearin brown neoprenes, ball cap.  I'm a 29 year old japanese female.  Not too many of us around on a fishing bar so should be hard to miss.  Husband's the only one remotely happy about the sockeye season coming to an end...  I guess he'll be getting hot meals and a clean house again.  (until the chum run up the stave! hehe) (and no. i do not eat those.)

When the gates open?!? They don't close. I have driven through there at 2 in the morning, 4 in the morning, 11 at night. Or was it a figure of speech?

Camped near the rivers edge, half way up the bar in tents. Next to a guy in  a camper. Fished the bar to the far left. Brought wife, kids and friends. Was fun because we were eating dinner at 7'ish and my buddy phones me and wants to fish in the morning, I was like, screw it, let's go now. I love last minute trips like that.

Hmm, don't think so. He had kids though, or grandkids. Didn't see him or a boat trailer.

He should feel lucky, you are bringing home 2 of the nicest tasting salmon in the world.   :)
