Jet Boaters charged with assault
« on: February 05, 2025, 01:14:40 PM »

Looks like the two goons who beat up Rufus are going to court.                                                                        https://pauljhenderson.com/trial-set-for-two-men-caught-on-video-violently-assaulting-vedder-river-angler/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0PEc98j9edpMi5tfYC6Di_jYoFVEjiZDDZHmKfp8wLCki_sOyodqiMV4w_aem_HhLDK23O6YnY8sCUkbyABA

That is great news.  Too bad nothing is going to happen to them.  Maybe Canada will be the 51st state by the court day and the court actually punish this type of behaviour.

While I agree we need reforms to violent offenders, this 51 state BS has to be called out. No one is holding you here against your will. Your welcome to leave at any time. In fact I encourage it.

And yet this could all of been avoided if those in charge had the brains to figure out that allowing jetboats on the Chilliwack/Vedder is complete lunacy.

As someone who owned a 20ft custom weld for a decade I completely agree. Vedder river never even crossed my mind. Asking for trouble, especially in the summer months.

It's good that at least two of the 3 involved in the assault have finally been charged There still has to be a trial as well.

FWIW in the US each state is responsible for criminal law and how they deal with those convicted varies. Some are more like Canada than others.

what a great legal system we have where it takes 2.5 years for an assault case with video evidence to go to court. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a verdict in the year 2050. Absolute shame

Great news.

I remember the outrage when charges weren't laid within a few weeks, or even stating just a few months ago that too bad they got away with it. I'm looking at you @Wiseguy!   Patience, grasshopper, patience  :)

A quick look Court Services Online shows that Mr. Burgener has had even more contact with the justice system than what is mentioned in the article. Not a model citizen...  If I had to guess, I would say his days of getting probation and conditional discharges for assaults are over. But, of course, that's just a guess. The scales of justice will work this out in due course. Who knows, there may even be a plea bargain before the scheduled trial date...

if you knew even a little of the number of innocent people who were thrown in jail for periods as long as a life sentence, you may appreciate the length of time some of these cases take. Again not everyone charged and tried is convicted and sent to jail.

very often that is what happens but given the record of that one person it may not be the optimum thing to do.

LOL, Do you think I care what you encourage.  My point was the sentences handed out by Canadian courts is a joke.  So take your encouragement and tell your boyfriend how good he is...

This is the response I would expect from someone that wants canada to become the 51 state.

Funny thing is I agreed with you in my first post on our current court system. Hate to see what you would say if I disagreed with you.
