Two Men Drown While Ice Fishing at Grace Lake.
« on: February 05, 2025, 04:56:52 PM »

 From CBC Vancouver.

"RCMP in B.C.'s Fraser Valley say two bodies have been recovered from Grace Lake, near Agassiz.

Police were called at 11:16 p.m. PT on Tuesday after two men failed to return from a fishing trip earlier that day.

Search and rescue crews and police arrived at Grace Lake to find a large hole in the ice that was surrounded by fishing gear. Ultimately, the RCMP's Underwater Recovery Team helped recover the men's bodies."

Truly sad.

I only know what was in the article, but let this be a reminder to those going ice fishing that you need to regularly check ice thickness as it can change from the shore to the deepest parts.  Beware of bubblers too.

RIP

Tragic indeed and I am sorry for the loss of the lives of these 2 men and for the loss for their family and friends.

Yet it does seem to me that it has not been cold enough for long enough for the ice to be anywhere near reliable. There can be a  high cost to bad judgement, far too high.

If you are ice fishing anywhere within a 200 km radius of lower mainland, you are putting your head in a vice.
