wow, barbless hooks on all those lower mainland lakes is ridiculous. I guarantee you 90% of people will not follow that. To save a turtle? Come on, do they really think we have an impact on their populations.. Like it's not the habitat loss..

yes well what can anyone say?

I certainly don't like the idea of any turtles being hooked by anglers. However this seems to be a regulation coming from a non-angling sector. If angling is a problem on some of these lakes may be they should just be closed.

It does sort of get me as despite some wind from F&W about putting emphasis on Sea Run Cutthroat, making their conservation a priority,  this is like the 2nd go round on the bi-annual regs refresh with no significant  changes to protect them in Region 2. Priorities seem out of whack to me.

FWIW I don't fish with barbledss hooks ever.

they banned fishing in Minnikhada (sp) marsh to save the painted turtles - never mind the (now) unchecked bass will be eating the baby turtles.

Where did you see that? I only saw it apply to all rivers/streams in region two. Not lakes. Will go look again though.

Look under specific lakes in region 2. Horseshoe Lake for example.

LaFarge, Como & Mill are a few of the local stocked lakes that now have this regulation. Sardis Park Pond and Jerry Sulina Pond (Pitt Meadows)  also have it . Jerry Sulina is very small and used to have catfish in it. I haven't seen anyone fishing it for years.

There are no trout in Sardis Pond. Haven't been any for years.

Many ponds that don't dry up in summer likely have sunfish or even bass in them.

I'm actually surprised anyone fishes Sardis Park at all anymore. During the warm season, it is almost impossible to find 2 square feet of water that isn't covered by lilies or millfoil....nevermind what is under the surface.

My bad!
When I went to the BC gov website, it still showed (for me) the 23-25 regs first and foremost, i had to scroll down to find the 25/26 regs. :S
