Indian River Access
« on: March 29, 2025, 04:51:18 PM »

So, whenever I try to google maps my way to the Indian River I get this as the sole option: https://imgur.com/a/osYTAqH

Is there a way to access it without driving all the way up sea to sky and squamish? There must be access from Anmore/North Van. I have a 4wd so offroad is not a problem.
Thanks for fuelling my thirst for adventure

Only 2 ways there, one is by boat up Indian arm and the other way is the one you mentioned driving in from Squamish. Never was a road from Anmore or Deep Cove

Not that I have heard of .

Have you had a look at google earth or other satellite images sources? You may find something there but frankly even if they were publicly accessible, which I don't think they are, they look to be  much longer routes than via Stawamus.

You can get to the Indian river FSR    It’s the first main right on Mamquam FSR.    Just before the casino.  In Squamish.    Yes you can drive to the river . But 100% not right now !!! Unless you have a snowmobile haha.   I’ve been trying to get there in early spring for years. For bear.    But nope. The wall of snow. Comes fast.  This year with the low snow pack. I’m thinking If it’s a warm spring.  End of may early June.   You might be able to get over on a decent 4x4. With good Offroad tires.     Those roads get bad.  So expect washouts.    From the snow melts.

It's closed until 2026 for a gas pipeline installation.

And don't be surprised if it's permanently gated after that date like most of the other forest roads in the area.  Sure hope not.

Yeah, I did. I found some forest service roads that lead to where I want. One starts in Coquitlam and, after a few turns, leads to Indian River. But I'm not sure if these are closed or if anyone's tried them.

Any service road in Coquitlam is gated or owned by the city with no trespassing. Same for North Vancouver. Only way to the Indian right now is by water and you should contact the First Nations band to use their dock. Also no salmon fishing last I checked.

the Coquitlam Road is the watershed access and is controlled by the GVRD. It's not a public road. Access to the watershed above the dam is restricted as it is part of our watershed supply.

better option is knowing someone who has a key.

What wouldn't I give to know somebody like that.

If you happen to have somebody like this in mind, send them my way for beer and academic tutoring... the only two things I can offer as a broke as hell student hahahahahah

To be clear, this is the watershed that supplies drinking water for Metro Vancouver. The people who do have access take training on acceptable practices and have to have health checks before entering. This is not someplace for a wanna be weekend warrior to play in while trying to find a non existent route to a place that he has been told he can’t access from here. Why not try being a responsible member of society and go play in one of the innumerable locations that are available?

I am. Also, all sorts of wildlife already shits & pissed in that watershed. That's why the water is still treated before being supplied to metro Van. But an SUV will somehow spell doom?
