I am. Also, all sorts of wildlife already shits & pissed in that watershed. That's why the water is still treated before being supplied to metro Van. But an SUV will somehow spell doom?

That is incorrect.  The wildlife has been trained to walk to the other side of the divide.  They only eat and drink in the watershed.

Which is exactly why a self entitled person like yourself isn’t allowed in the watershed. What is your preoccupation with an area that you have never been to? There are a vast number of rivers with better fishing.

Hey bud, listen.

First off, I'm interested because I like exploring new places away from the herds of anglers like at Vedder. I like being out in nature and remote just as much as the fishing itself.

More importantly, if you can't participate in a discussion without getting your panties in a twist and insulting people - "weekend warrior", "self entitled", etc. - then don't bother commenting. If I was entitled, I would drive through that gate without any questions and go fishing. Instead I'm on here, trying to find info, getting input from nice old timers like Ralph, and having to deal with d!ckhead grandpas like you.

To anybody else, how do I block angry grandparents on this forum? Thanks

The problem with blocking someone on this forum is that for every person you block, you miss out on 20% of the posts.
This place is dead and needs some life pumped into it.

Ooh, now whose panties are in a twist. Poor little "student" can't get his way. Man up and go for a drive. You are the one who couldn't drive "all" the way to Squamish and wanted to find an alternative route and wants to go through the Coquitlam watershed. Have you driven up Suicide creek to get away from the crowds? Google Davis lake or Dixon lake. Try the Harrison East forest road or even the Harrison West forest road. Try Salisbury Lake or Lost Creek. Head up the Chehalis area. Just don't go where you are not supposed to be. Hell, Burma road is worth it just to say "yeah, I was up on Burma road last weekend". And those are just a few of the places that you can go on the north side of the Fraser without scratching the surface. Or you can do what adults do and drive all the way to Squamish and down to the Indian River when the road is open.

To be clear, this is the watershed that supplies drinking water for Metro Vancouver. The people who do have access take training on acceptable practices and have to have health checks before entering. This is not someplace for a wanna be weekend warrior to play in while trying to find a non existent route to a place that he has been told he can’t access from here. Why not try being a responsible member of society and go play in one of the innumerable locations that are available?

There are jurisdictions where the public is allowed to use drinking water reservoirs for recreation, a good example being New York State. In the past the GVRD wastewater treatment facilities used to offer those members of the public who took a tour to drink the water that had once gone through full treatment. Don't know is that is still the case though I heard few visitors took advantage of the chance.

FWIW the watershed road will be gated at the north end.

Now  I don't know as much as ralph but I can't imagine what advantage it would offer for the Metro Vancouver water department to allow public access to this watershed. There are a couple of places where one can go to have a drink of treated water that are quite a bit closer than New York. The people running the water system take quite a bit of pride in their water quality and, again, there is lots of places to go without going in to the watershed and I can't imagine anything else. As far as a gate at the north end I can't comment because we never went that far up when I worked in the watershed. I do know that there is no "key" to the gate at the south end anymore than there is a key to the gate at a prison. When we went in we had to submit stool samples and underwent vehicle inspections to ensure that we wouldn't be introducing disease, like hepatitis, or contaminating the water with engine oil or antifreeze. Seems like I what I would want my water department to do, it is easier to keep contaminants out of the water than to filter them later. And there are lots of other places just as remote or nice or pristine that don't involve drinking water. Or you can drive up Suicide Creek and visit the Dickson Lake reservoir if driving in a drinking water reservoir is that important to you. And then drink some FVRD water and decide which you like best. It is pretty easy, imo, to decide after drinking the less than tasty water from Dickson.

I know someone who works at the Coquitlam watershed. No public access. Period.

Gord I didn't mention any advantages or disadvantages of either approach. The point was we could allow access but there would be a cost.  I have been in New York City. The water tasted hard and chlorinated but it was drinkable and safe to drink. Thousands of people in this Province get their water from an untreated source and often live under a boil water advisory. I have spent time in those places. You could get sick from just brushing your teeth with unboiled water. I certainly don't think it would be worth it so a few people could use an alternative route to the Indian River. I  don't think it would be worth it for fishing or boating access. Maybe for hiking etc but that would be a toss up. So I am not suggesting we should look at changing it.

You don't. Not only is this forum dead from lack of posting, but the forum software is from 1967.
I don't blame Rod though. I wouldn't purchase new forum software for a dead forum either.

Not only that, his website mentioned a redesign early 2024, it is now a year later with no such update.
