Putting 'Faces on Names'
« on: September 02, 2004, 12:39:33 AM »

i was originally (and still am) a member of 'the other' fishing site.  i only found out about 'fwr' because of a bonehead thread that was posted to patronize the members of this site.  (anyway, that was way back and water under the bridge, as far as i'm concerned).

since then,  i've spent more time reading the posts here and am impressed with the level of comrodary and cooperation, that the members have displayed.

now everytime i go out and come across a friendly angler, i always wonder if he's (or she's) a member of this site.

i think it would help, if someone (Rodney or any other administrator) could come up with some kind of 'patch' or ensigma that can be sewn or worn to help identify members of this site.

i wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for something like that. it could even help break the ice and  create an opportunity to get to know someone on a first name basis, rather than just trying to recognize a person from some 'face' on a  photograph.

if something like that already exist, could some please let me know. :)

Oh my, now that you mentioned it, there is a patch! ;D

You can get it from me at the Vedder River Festival or other events ($8.00 each). Or you can download the order form and mail order it. ;)

I totally agree with that and I have said it before too. Quite often i'll be out there and fishing with someone that I think might be an FWR member so i'll just start talking loudly about something to see if anyone hears me or looks over in curiousity.
A patch on the ole waders or jacket would be kewl.

I don't like that one so much. (not only because I don't like catching dolphin) but it's too old school. So I'm gonna design my own, something a little more plain but not, you know? Anyways Rodney, if I make my own I'll get permission to use it and I'll still give you the 8 bucks. This is my rough copy, I want something like this...

Eww even better, personalised...

Hey, how about a competition... best FWR logo, just for kicks, don't even have to use them, just to see what people can come up with. I dunno, just an idea, I'm bored.

Birdsnester, that patch is awsome.... great, straight forward design. Very nice. I'd be in for one of those for sure.

It's easy to recognize FWR members.  They wear sickening yellow rain suits and stand on their heads when they catch a fish ;D

I like your design Bird.  Simple and easily recognizeable.

Rod, I work in sales and marketing and I have to say that I will get one of your badges, but you should consider one that is simpler like Birds design.  The only thing missing is something relating to fish.

Woah, woah! Hold on now. If I recall, there was much discussion on the current logo before it was made into a patch. While I'm personally not crazy over the current design, I don't hate it either. Let's keep the patch the way it is, at least for awhile. A little continuity would be good. After all, it's only been one year.

After awhile, a new design can be made. In that way, original members (at the time of the 1st. patch) can wear their original patches with pride.

If members wish to design their own patches, and wear them, I guess that's up to Rod. That would be expensive though for a small run.

Sorry BirdNester, I hate to be critical, but that design is neither modern nor original. Just text on a dark border. Sorry... :-\

Rodney,
Does the $8.00 cover the cost of the patch, or do some revenues go to enhancement etc.?

What about former members who got dropped off the site and their trail is erased continuously? Can they wear a patch?

P.S. Why did the "Otto-MIA" thread disappeared?
