Remember patterns can be specific to different water systems so knowing where you fish would be paramount to knowing what you will want to chuck.
Some good all around patterns that have been left out are some true staples of our rivers.

Coho Blue.
Great Gonzo.
Mickey Finn. (Great success with a flash over wing)
Bead head Hare's ear in size 10, 8, black. (gold rib)
Davie Street Hooker. (Caught my first sleelie with this one)
Green butt skunk.
Of course these are all flies meant to be swung along the bottom for salmon and steelies so if you were looking for summer run flies that would be another list.
The deal is to get your pattern down quick in our rivers, so pattern can be almost secondary to getting it down FAST.
