Now that the Vedder is not fishable, time to move over to the Chehalis.
Anyone been there today- is it blown too???
Need to get away - time to cleanse the soul from a hard week's work.

I would think a little water wouldn't hurt in the chehalis, would it

Would be nice to see the rain carve a new path away from native land. I will check it out tomorrow and report back.

Well said Fulcrum.  Ive seen it happen.  Scary stuff how quickly that river rises and then drops again.

Why does it do that?? Does the river being confined up in the canyon section have anything to do with it?

The Bronto and myself went to the Chehalis this morning after finding out the Cheddar was blown. Water was in awesome shape; nice color; and someone has been in the river bed with a cat or something (tracks), and moved lots of gravel around so there's water moving past the hatchery now. Most of it is still going down through the bush though. Only saw three other guys there besides us and one fellow got a small fish; looked like a jack or a steelie smolt. Little early still for this river I think.

Son and brother in law got into a 6 and 8 lb summer run steelhead respectively.

Water runs close to the banks now. No more conference run. Water is till a bit too low.

fished the chehalis today after no luck at the vedder.
Was quit surprised to see that there was lots of water there.
Could not wade across the hatchery anymore.
Anyhow on to the report... caught my first chum of the year today.
Still some coloured springs in there. Visibility was maybe 2 feet, can't wait till it clears cause I think this year will be very productive for coho now that there is water running by the hatchery again. On another note, a fellow caught an 8# steely and seen another 2 in the hatchery.

chums were in decent shape, certainly not chrome or anything.
they look like the one's you would catch in the vedder or the stave around october time

It rises fast because there are a lot of tributaries and it's very narrow.

It's still my favorite river.  Lots of secluded spots to fish in the canyon.  Take a rope.  Those 75-100ft climbs can be dangerous at 5am.
