Actually my favorite spoon for chum salmon is the 1/4oz green hex Gibbs Croc.

I've always just used wool for chum.  It's cheap and they'll take it.  In deep clear pools, try a long leader (6ft) and a sliding float.  The sliding float makes casting way easier and you can go as deep as you want.

Tie 10lb mono with an over hand knot on your main line.  Put 1 half hitch above and below the overhand knot and leave 1/8" tag off each end.  Place a bead below the knot, your float below the bead and another bead at the bottom.  Tie on your swivel and your leader.  When you cast, let the line free wheel after the float hits the water.  When the float straightens up you're there.

Hooked something today on wool. But me being the smartest person had my bail open while the float drifted! i set the hook and gotta birds nest! well it was off before i knew it. Had a 2 pound cuttthroat and about a 10 pound coho take a shot at my croc.

But my spoons are useless for chums, they are only good for coho. :)

What?  Last year, we  got many chums with your spoons  at North Arm, remember?  ???

No. :P Last year, I don't know what you were using, but I was using the green hex croc for chum and my dad had the orange striped spoon that I made, he was the only one who hooked a coho that day. ;)

Let see... I used both your red  and green prism taped silver spoon at North Arm.

Also, I got a chum (in a mouth) with your red taped spoon at Stave when I fished with you and canoe man...

I agree that it doesnt matter what you throw at a chum, they will strike just about anything.

I have a wide array of mass produced spoons and spinners (3.50-6.50 each) and frankly most of my coho and chum came on 35 cent swivel spinners!  Blade color is important so I always has a selection....ask Bug Pumper, he'll also tell ya to save your money and drift or spincast a colarado.
