Chilliwack River, October 2nd 2004
« on: October 02, 2004, 11:25:56 AM »

Well, I forgot that it was derby day on the Ved, but I stayed to fish anyway. Got there before dawn and there were lots of folks around already. Fished the middle river and saw a few stinky whites caught, but no hohos. Went to Fred's for a couple of things and spoke to the weigh in lady and she said that there were only 2 Cohos weighed in (this was at 10am). Where are all the Coho? Nice day though.

Only two coho eh... They're there, just gotta find them. :) This water is actually awesome for coho, but looks like the rain is coming on Wednesday. :-\ The first couple hours after dawn are the magic hours I find, fish will be on the bite if you can find them. ;) Yesterday between the four people including myself who were drifting roe, we hooked around 25 fish in total, just had trouble landing most of them. :-[

Fishing seemed pretty slow today. I fished the lower river starting at 6:15 and then moved to the upper and then later down to the lower again to end at 1:00. I briefly hooked into one before sun up and had a few bites but no luck for me. I guess I don't win the derby  :P

Just got back from tour of the river cleaning up garbage checking for some spots as my fishing will be starting on Monday. ;D ;D

Lots of anglers out but the majority of them were long lining, dredging the bottom, setting the hook on every drift etc.. Only saw 2 fish caught, one spring at KWB and one coho at the boom sticks.

Was distressed as well to see another gravel mining site being opened up on the gravel bar above KWB. My understanding was they were given an extension past the usual window of Sept.15 to the 30th because of high water flows. I do not know what gives here as today is October 2nd.

On the positive it was just a lovely summer like day out, a great day to be outdoors and a good time to cut the lawn today before the rain comes early this week and the coho really start biting. ;D ;D

Fished a number of runs in the lower to middle sections. Lots of anglers. Saw couple of cohos caught from the lower section and a number of nice springs in the middle section. Overall, very slow. Talked to an angler who reported that he fished the Boundary Pool, Lickman and Peach Roads, Ranger Run, Tamahi, and Boulder Hole and had nothing to show for his efforts.

Well I went fishing all day today got about 6 hits but nothing landed , not many cohos I tell ya not where I go anyway. You won't believe I went in the coho derby today and there was only 1 coho caught in the derby and first prise was a g loomis rod and quantam reel (price around 600.00) the 1 coho that won it was a jack around 1 and a half pounds, lol, no word of a lie. Well i hope I get my first coho of the season soon errrr. :-\

Fished with a FishBC member today. Started lower river...nothing, went up a few kilometres...nothing. Stopped for lunch then went to the upper river. Quite a few Chinook being caught. Not many Coho but some jumpers and I lost a beauty. Here is a picture of a Chrome 15lbs Red Spring I got. The photo does no justice it is the amount of light exposure in the camera. Caught this short floating Roe from the Marble Chinook last weekend.
