Not sure really how to do it. I chuck spoons but mostly fish the chuck. Do you want your float to sit up right in the water? Should the pencil weight be  at the top near the float and then a splitshot below? How do you get a pencil wieght on? I have no clue? help

I prefer a natural float (straight up and down) and slightly pointed at the angler.

well you need a float the foam kind are the cheapest
thread your main line through the top of it and wrap it around twice and then poke it out the bottom 
now tie on a swivel.
now i like to use a small pice of rubber tubing to carry , or hold my pencil lead in so i thread a small piece of tubing onto my main line and when the lead is pushed into it,  it will sit and stay above the swivel.
now you can tie what ever you want onto the  bottom side of the swivel, the bait is up to you 
to change your depth you just need to pull line through the float making sure not to get tangled up in the wraps around the float

Foam floats are cheep, I prefer cork or drennan.  They have a nice taper which allows the float to remain more or less upright and they're more sensitive.  Go to the library and check out some old Sport Fishing BC magazines.

Now i have 2 weeks to learn this before the big qualicum opens. I Now understand float fishing. Now whats the best thing to put under it. wool roe or anything else? I would be targeting chinook probaly C&R unless i get a nice chromer. also how far below the float should the weight be and how far below the weight should the bait be?

Ok i have figured it out and.................. a new float fisherman has been born Now i need to know what should go under it

you can put what ever you like under it from colorado blades to roe in bags or chunks
depends on what your target fish is

I would be targeting chinook and coho. i dont know a thing about cureing so i would probaly buy my own roe and make bags with panti hose? would that work and were would i get some cured roe?

Should be available at your local tackle shop. Don't buy the stuff from the gas station. They are total crap

Try everything.  Start with roe.  When something doesn't work, try something else.  Don't be afraid to try small presentations.  Try things that don't seem right sometimes.  Like peach wool with black wool in muddy conditions.  The black is more visible and may generate the strike.

You dont even need a float just tie on a boucing better 2 ounce approx depending on the water and a 10 foot leader just like the guys on the lower vedder. It's a better way to fish as it gives the fish more of a chance

Is bottom bouncing not flossing? and 10 foot leaders is also flossing. Im trying to learn how to float fish because i dont want to snag and floss fish. I think flossing and snagging is pretty sad.
