Just returned from a quick 2 day/2 night trip to St Mary Lake.
Water-extremely high/somewhat muddy
Weather-mixed
Fishing-as per the subject line so many fish in that lake it's stupid
Not all biting at the same time but when the bite comes on it's hot 'n heavy
Results-first Rainbow in almost 20 years-a whopper almost 20"!!
First ever Yellow Perch-a bruiser that probably weighed 200 grams!!!
Lotsa Bass most 200-300 grams only one over
Note-I am not a bullsh*tter in any way-I know what those fish weigh and am not about to pad a report about all the 2 & 3 pounders I caught-there are very few 2 & 3 pound fish in that lake no matter what anyone says.
Only disappointment was very slow topwater action-noly one caught on poppers sadly.

Is my cabana flooded? Would that water clear up and drop soon?

Only one top water action, water too cold?

What did you get the big yellow perch on?

#'s 6 & 7 aren't flooded but the new bigger decks are almost awash and Mark won't be renting them out until the lake drops or he has time to haul in some gravel to build a walkway-it's 100% mud now.
I was in #8 and could step from the deck into the lake easy.
If it keeps raining it won't drop fast but after the Long Weekend lost of people open up their summer places-the population doubles on the Island-so a lot of water will be drawn out.
Perch was taken on a Crankbait-for the first time ever I noticed Perch actually following Crankbaits and the small Spinnerboait rigs I use.
The Trout was also taken on a fast trolled Crankbait-something that's worked before but for Cutts not Rainbows-not for years that I can recall anyway.
There was a monster hatch of something going on in front of the water intake-so many small Trout jumping/swirling it looked like Coho feeding-this went on and off for hours all day both days-just nuts.

Note that St Mary's is a river in the east Kootenay region.
St Mary is a lake on Saltspring Island as mentioned.

Yipee!!! I read the original subject title, and said..."I gotta know where that is!!!" Imagine my delight when I find out it's where we are already booked to go fishing later next month!!! Giddy-up!
