Lower Mainland lakes May 25th

The following Lower Mainland lakes will be stocked today with catchable rainbows (up to 12 in.) by the good folks at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery.

Rice
Sasamat
Buntzen
Como (age restriction)
Lafarge
Trout
Green Timbers

Once the fish settle in for a day or two, fishing should be good this weekend for those who are trying these lakes out. :) Please remember daily quota is four fish per person.

Fall fry (<5 g): appropriate for remote access (most fish per volume) in a productive monoculture environment (i.e. no competition or predation), cost-efficiency (lowest cost per fish), and to reduce the incidence of early maturation under some conditions.

Fingerling (5-9 g): appropriate for remote access, cost-efficiency, some adaptive advantage associated with less time spent in hatchery.

Yearling (10-25 g): better survival especially where other species occur (competition/predation pressure), some cost-efficiency (compared to catchables), slight adaptive advantage over catchables.

Catchables: appropriate in urban setting or high creel areas, immediately available to fishery, most expensive to raise.

LOL.  We caught a few of them on Monday at Deer in Sasquatch. 

So, a 10" fish would be a 2 year old fish generally?

at rice lake this year a hatchery fellow told me the trout he was releasing that were around 14" were 15 months old.

good question....

Rod is this report verified because it dosen say anything in fish wizard... I am sure the lakes will be packed again this week....Mind you i have yet to catch a fish at most of those lakes before 11 am

No numbers yet, but probably 500 each lake. It's not in Fish Wizard yet, because FWR gets the hottest fishing news first. ;) The information was obtained from personal communication with the hatchery staff this week.

Good weather, lakes are stocked, perfect weekend to get the kids out fishing without going to far. :) Support the Freshwater Fishery Society of BC, and they will assure you many similar weekends to come in the future.

There is also a Como Lake trout derby this Saturday for those who are keen to compete, under 16 only.

Green Timbers is in Surrey. I don't have the exact location, someone else like Pepsi Trev or TtotheE would be able to help you out.

Please note,  last time I was there the regs at Green Timbers(last fall) was changed to *1* fish per day.  I'm assuming they're trying to stop the guys who tank out 20 a day.  My information may be terribly outdated.  The lake also used to be artificial lure or worm only,  but was officially changed since everybody used powerbait anyways.  And please,  dont' feed the birds.  Oh yes,  the entrance is off 100th between 144 and 148.
