Spent a few hours sturgeon fishing between Island 22 and the Vedder since the bar rods were a little quite for me while fishing for springs, got four sturgeon, the biggest was just over five feet. Was fishing a little bay with no current, was that ever alot of fun with the bigger sturgeon, no current just fish, man, they were all over the place, 75 yard run, than screaming back under the boat and out again..
While fishing, a native came out to check his net, no springs, however...........he had 10 - 12 sturgeon in the net from 2 - 4 feet, he had a really hard time getting the sturgeon out of his net, at least 3 that I could see were bleeding alot, no white belly, just red from the blood, he must of cut them out. Having said that, when they were talking about shutting down sturgeon fishing completely, I wonder if anyone has given any thought to the damage the indian nets do to sturgeon......
I wonder how long a sturgeon would live after being caught in a gill net??
Any thoughts.........
