As it was Father's Day Gwyn and I got to do what we wished this afternoon.
It was a lovely day here in the Valley so we decided to use our new freedom to check out the clarity of the Fraser.
As we reached Island 22 launch we saw a good number of empty trailers so a number of other anglers had the same idea.
I had been down at the launch in the early morning and had talked to the creel survey boys and they said the fishing had been slow but the word was that the Albion test fishery was starting to pick up the last few days. Also saw the Master there, he was getting the Jet boat ready to take some clients out sturgeon and bar fishing. He would be guiding the next 3 days, lucky clients experencing the Master's magic.
We have the Leaf Craft in the water and in no time she is
rolling, rolling, rolling right along to Maple Leaf Bar.
We pass lots of boats sturgeon fishing and on arriving at Maple Leaf Bar there is 3 boats bar fishing.
We check the water clarity and have a bit of a discussion about it, and we decide it is about a foot, a bit iffy for fishing, but possible.
We settle into our lawn chairs and enjoy the scenery but the blasted mosquitos are almost unbearable.
I put on a pair of gloves to keep the critters from enjoying some of my blood.
We pass the time by cleaning up the Leaf Craft and as the sun start to set these flying, biting, blood sucking creatures come out in squadrons. They dive, they buzz and they bite. They become so bad we hurrily pack and head for the launch. We are fishless and with a little less blood to show for the 3 hours of fishing
I believe the river will now continue to drop and clear daily and it will not be long until the bar bells will begin to chime their sweet music along the Fraser River bars.
I will be there thats for sure, will you?
