nahatlatch river by boston bar
« on: June 20, 2005, 10:03:34 PM »

has anyone ever fished this river for salmon, trout or steelhead.  explored this area once a couple of years ago but too much snow.  looks like a good river, evidence of steelhead/salmon fishing but thats all i saw.

For information on this river from a different site , click http://forum.fishbc.com/index.php?showtopic=21633&hl=mushroom
By the sounds of it, it is a fairly barren river, at least for resident fish.  However, I was able to pull out one Dolly and a few small Whitefish while camping there a few years ago, but by the sounds of it, I was just lucky.  It is a very nice looking river, but not a river that I would return to fish.
Hope this helps a bit.

There is a run of steelhead in it or there was when I was working in the area many years ago. Chinooks are located at the mouth during June but there has been no opening for them for many years.

The drive up to the Nahatlatch Lakes is worth it for the trip just for the scenery.

Starting this year there will be a closure for steel head fishing as well.   The river is a work of art but with very few fish to be had.  Timing is everythig.  ;)

I've fished it too-very little to be had.
I wonder if the steep gradient in many places has anything to do with the relative barrenness of the water?
It's one of the few places I've stood/fished and been constantly splashed my running water-it just barrels down the chute in most places-which of course make it's a river rafter's dream.
Maybe a nutrient drip in the right place might correct some of the stock damage that's occurred in the past.
Some great birding in the area.
