Here's the thing, I know that most of use get a certain satisfaction about giving sculpins (the bait stealing SOBs also known as bullheads) the CHOP!

The joy of revenge aside, the question is: does sculpin flesh make good bait, and if so, for what?

I know that I have no problem catching more sculpins with sculpin as bait.  A small piece on a #12 hook is killer for perch of all kinds.  I assume that crabs and dogfish would be happy to eat sculpin.  What else?  And what will not take a piece of bullhead?

I hear different things about dogfish.  Some people say that they are always around.  My understanding is that they travel in schools of hundreds or thousands, and if you're catching dogfish you catch A LOT of dogfish and ONLY dogfish.

That's been my experience. Use bait if you want to target them.

We cut open a doggie the other week and found a small sculpin inside him.  That was actually the only dogfish that was caught so I guess they don't always travel in groups.
