Can't keep them off, Fraser on fire July 22nd
« on: July 23, 2005, 12:20:26 AM »

Yep, they just kept coming and coming..... ;D Peamouth chub that is. ;)

Those are Nina's hands by the way, see those nails? Fishin Chick did those yesterday. ::) They costed me $35 so I am making pictorial use of them. ;) If you, ahem.... your gf or wife or sis or mother, want to get the nails done, give fishin chick a shout. ;)

We fished London's Landing today by the way, around the evening time. After crazily declined CG's invitation to this week's fantastic barfishing outings, I wanted to at least hook something to ease the craving. :P Late last night, CG was still trying to convince me to join him and leave Nina at home if she didn't want to go. :P

Anyways, back to the fishing... clarity down around the estuary is still fairly bad. Visibility is only at around 6 inches. Still a huge amount of water coming down, making fishing rather difficult. Our first week of youth fishing camp has been fairly slow, but fortunately all of the young anglers caught fish. :) This week's species caught include two different species of sculpins, peamouth chub, northern pikeminnow, shiner perch. The fishing turned on and off, even during the good tides.

The bird life also kept every kid entertained during the camps.

Baby swan around Steveston.

It was awfully windy this evening, making the bites hard to detect. We still managed to catch quite a few.

The fishing wasn't complete without a hero shot. ;)

Mr Bullhead

Bumped into Obi Wan at the end of the day, couldn't recognize him as the last time/first time I met him was two years ago during pink season. ;D Sorry. :)

The last couple of days we have also seen some spring jacks surfacing in the shallows.

So anyways, the Fraser is on fire. ;)

Enjoy the walleye and pike fishing.

I think Nina got those long fake nails just so I have to bait for her everytime. ::)

We were out again this evening, caught and released some more chub and Nina had one pretty nice size pikeminnow on.

Nina also lectured a few who decided that the bullhead they caught should be left on dry ground to die because they kept "stealing" the bait. ::)

If you catch or see someone who catches a fish that maybe undesirable for consumption, please release it.

Why should you release a bullhead?

1) It's illegal to waste your catch.

2) It's cruel to leave a fish to die on land for no apparent reason.

3) Despite its look, some of these "undesirable" species may play an important ecological role that we have not discovered.

You make me sound like such a stiff! (…ok, maybe I am….oh well  ;D ).
All I did was ask them to release the poor creatures.

I am not gonna sit by and watch cruelty to animals, it makes my blood boil.  >:(

I know that might be a bit hypocritical to say when Rodney and I were practicing catch and release right next to these people, which some might consider cruelty to animals as well. It is such a grey area.  ???

Still, leaving a poor animal to suffocate to death for no reason is just plain ignorance and lack of respect for life.  :-\  :'(

On another note, those chubs have become way harder to catch now compared to a few years ago! I guess maybe the fishing pressure has been too big and the chubs are finally learning to be more cautious.  :o
