NORTH VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - The lights were out in North Vancouver for about 3-thousand residents earlier Monday evening after a long cast by a young fly fisher caused a shutdown at the Norgate Substation.
Hydro's Elisha Moreno says the man was on the Capilano River when the outage occurred around ten minutes after eight, "There's sort of three lines in a layer and what happened is, he wrapped the line around them as he did the cast and pulled them back to try to get his fishing line off the power lines, and pulled them together and that causes a fault on the system."
The man's fishing line snapped, but Moreno says regardless, the risk of electrocution was quite low because the lines de-energized almost immediately.
The area bordered by Upper Levels Highway to Burrard Inlet, and Capilano Road to Hanes Road was affected.
