Cummins, On Global, Tonight Re Fishing In the Chilliwack Area
« on: August 21, 2005, 05:37:01 PM »

Conservative MP John Cummins was to be on the Fraser River with Global TV today in the Chilliwack area. You may want to watch the 6 news or late tonight to see if it airs and what they may have seen.

I would like comments on this as to me they do not seem to mind breaking the law as it is now.

Wasn't that Darwin Douglas on the boat netting and being interviewed? I guess they used his native name instead this time in the caption...

Randog phoned me up around 2:30pm today reporting one Cheam First Nation member driftnetting. He phoned the ORR line but the staff told him it was a legal opening. This was not true as the Cheam had an opening on Friday 0800 to 2000, Saturday 0800 to 2000, not on Sunday. All other bands have an opening on Saturday 0800 to 2000, and today 0800 to 2000. Why the separation of the openings, which would only lead to confusion as I just described above?

it is a joke....all these dfo postings of native openings and closings....just political posturing (to "save face")...natives have no respect for our governments.  and in turn, our governments have no back bone to enforce the laws.  the biggest losers, are us recreational fishermen. we're the ones pumping money into the industry...licenses, taxes, gear, and  etc....yet, we're the ones being ignored and neglected.

I suggest a system where the gov't takes away privileges from the FN when they break DFO laws.  How about the guilty party paying taxes for  a year. ;)

The plain truth is before 2010 Winter Olympics, FN can do what they want & the governement does not have the stomach to start up a ' war' with them.  Bad publicity of a gentle nation is bad business for the Olympics.  Perhaps after the Olympics, something will change.  >:( :(

I think it has more to do with land claims than with anything else.If they stir the pot to much do you think they would sign on the dotted line or ask for more.
