Just so you know. The fn net the veddar and the chehalis every year. Why do you think that the fn will not allow the chehalis to be re-directed towards the hatchery by the camp ground. As for the veddar they net the coho and steelhead. It is nothing new. It runs right by their land. I guess that means it is their right.More like greed.

Guess they want a little variety in their diet. After all, you cannot eat sockeyes 365 times a year. :D

Come on guys, they have a historical right to those Harrispon whites the vedder hatchery pumps out...and who gives a frig about the cultas sockeye either.

When they can net the fraser why in hells name would they net the vedder now...especially with the weak run of cultas socs   :(

FN is doing this for the pinks - well for the pink roe only. They cull the humpies. This is also done, I'm sure, just to piss the fishermen off.

I remember a couple years ago a group of us doing really well on the Gun Barrel area of the Vedder in March or April. I thought I would beat everyone back the next morning, only to see an old pickup parked on the other side and a net strung right across the tailout. It had probably been there all night. From what I hear, this will be on the increase in the future.

Interesting to watch the FN boats in the South Arm on Saturday. They were close enough so you could see and hear everything going on. Thousands of fish taken just in that small area. Many dead pinks discarded. The mood on the boats was lighthearted,to put it mildly. hell, they haven't had this much fun since, well.....last year. If things keep going this well for them we may only have to pay a few more hundred million for them not to embarrass the country with threats and roadblocks during the olympics.

When it comes to the nets on the Vedder and the Chehalis I have always wondered how DFO justify this. The very same aboriginals net
hundreds of thousands of sockeye.Similer numbers of pinks.Thousands of springs and chums.Yet even though thier band members get first crack at hachery jobs they still rape the same rivers that they supposedly are working to re-habilitate.What absolute hipocrisy!I say shame on Ottawa for turnig this into a race based fishery with everyone at each others throat. When will someone with some balls be in our corner?
