COho trip...sept. 5th
« on: September 05, 2005, 09:45:56 AM »

Went to one of my favourite pools today, even in low water there is decent depth there and with a long even tail out, first light is usually good there.

Today was no exception.  Firsh cast on a #35 coho spoon I connect with a 5lb wild doe.  4rth or 5th cast in, I connect with a scrappy little 3-4 lb coho.  After 10 cast I decide to throw a blue fox... hit another 2 fish on that.  All the fish just went mad when hooked, fiesty little scrappers, all experts with the notorious coho roll...man its like they took classes on how to shake the hook!  Of those first 4 fish, only the wild one was beached.

Decided to huck a bit of chum roe so I put away the back caster for the center pin.  Looks like I hadnt hit half the fish in that pool as once again, first drift with roe, down goes the float.  That one made it to shore (and into the vest) and 2 more were gently released there after.

What a morning! didnt see a single soul, just me and there river!  And the best thing is that its still early in the season...things are just warming up as the weathers cooling down.  Ah once again coho season is here!

Well obviously it's not the Cap, where a bait ban is in effect. ;)

if i told you where I was this morning, it would look like peg leg by next weekend!  I figure that with the sockeye fishery open, this river was extra quite today and I dont want to spoil the moment  ;)

Go out and expolre, you will probably be rewarded.

Gooey, perhaps you are thinking of statlu creek, which flows into the chehalis. Which, by the way is closed to fishing.
