No fish to report, but was cool to find somewhere new to fish. I've been on the Island for 6 days now, and really quite like it here.

Met two other guys at the end of the breakwater, Arron and Dave I believe their names were, very nice guys. They took one cod, at least they thought it was. Fished buzz bombs, nothing for me, wasn't there for too long, the wind waves and rising tide didn't seem to appealing on the first day fishing there.

Was able to take one picture that I thought was pretty cool:

Thats to bad you dident get any fish. Did you see any fish cuaght?At least you sound like it wasent a waste of time.

T, is that a kelp bed right in front of you? Do I sense perch opportunities? Maybe float fishing... jigging... Something different to what we normall do here, I would love to try.

Hey Rod, there were indeed MANY perch in the area, but I only had spoons and buzz bombs and a levelwind with me, will be better prepared for the next outing, whenever that is.

Give me a heads up if you're ever on the island, I havn't fished with you in a while, and it's always better when there's a friendly face in the rocks.

As for the pic, I love using the sun like that to make a sillouette, I'm not quite entirely "black" in that one, but I thought the sky colour and location of the clouds added a cool effect.

You can get the odd monster spring off the Victoria Breakwater and the divers play with octopus and wolf eels.  Quite a few rockfish and some real huge lings in amongst the crevices.  Floats and bait work very well and often the inside of the breakwater can attract huge schools of herring.  Naturally, the salmon follow them in

ANY monster lings should be returned to the water. They are all females at that size, and lay thousands of eggs.

nice photo brings back memories from when i was a kid. lived there for 20 yrs and did some extensive fishing from the breakwater.

I hear you Magician.  I'm just saying that I've seen many a large lingcod in the past taken from the Breakwater (probably not so many now).  Big females are hard to come by close to urban areas as the local reefs and rocks close by get fished out.  Besides, the smaller lings are tastier anyway....Heed his advice and let them go.

I wish the breakwater was Shangri-La  , but for me that is located either at Renfrew when the big coho show up or back at River's Inlet at the head.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were some large Ling around there, there were a lot of smaller baitfish too all amongst the kelp. Really interesting to see so much life in the waters next to a large city. By the looks of it, the whole breakwater (from the gate to the lighthouse) looks like it has great potential for hosting a massive variety of life.

It has the calm "pool," almost where you can find some of the slower moving animals, off the end, there's a bit of faster moving water, causing bait to stack up and good currents for lingcod to hang out in, then on the outside, large kelpbeds and rougher water for some of the faster moving species, as welll as rugged bottom dwellers.

I remember hooking into a 6 foot long line that was probably well over 50 maybe 60 lbs and it took a lot to hold it up for the picture. My guest wanted to kill it, and wanted to gaff my guest and throw him overboard. We did release it, and watched it swim into the blue water. COOLLLLLLL!

Any ling over 20 lbs should be put back to live another day.
