Bears
« on: September 14, 2005, 10:56:01 PM »

The last three weeks have been some sleepless nights . I live in poco and they are bad this year it seems that every other night they are in someones garbage can . I was keeping mine beside my house until bang one night went the can three bears one adult and two cubs eating my garbage. So we moved the cans into the back yard which is fenced  this didn't help they climbed the 7 foot fence and helped themselves again. Also flipped my neighbors deep freeze and raided it it was in her carport. My dog goes AWOL as soon as there any where near the house either he can smell them or he senses them.Any one have any suggestions on how to get rid of these mess makers we called conservation they don't seem interested in doing any thing about it.

Illegal to discharge a firearm in the city, unless you want to see the Swat team up close

Even if you go to check on the noise and the bear tries to kill you?

The only reason they are there is for food, take away thier food supply ie garbage ,bird feeders, dirty barbeques , no food = no bears.

Garbage can in garage bad idea put it there and they will tip it over and scratch the paint on my boat not to mention that is the entrance to the house. Keeping the garbage in the house is not an option it stinks.

i wash the inside of my garbage cans with bleach. it works to deter raccoons, maybe it'll work on bears? ???

i got an idea.... sell your houses and move to somewhere that does not encroach on bear habitat. or simply deal with it as a fact of life, buy a bear proof garbage can and take your chances.
I always laugh at people who complain about bears in thier neighborhoods. Maybe if people decided not to buy residential property in high bear encounter communities, this problem would be minimialized.
not to trivialize the issue but this problem is peoples fault , not the bears.
