Chehalis or Stave Coho
« on: September 22, 2005, 01:54:04 AM »

Hey guys. Any reports on Coho returns to the Chehalis or the Stave? I haven't been out for awhile and my time for fishing is limited. I'm hoping to get out this weekend to find some Coho.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Probably the odd one hanging around in the Harrison but no huge numbers yet.

A question off topic. Are the pinks any good in the stave?

Their are none in the Stave this year. I caught a bunch 2 years ago and nothing this year. Not even seen any never mind catching any. Some spring jacks around but thats about it.

What happened to them? does the hatchery put them in?

They were all just strays but their were quite a few of them 2 years ago. This year someone has been netting the mouth of the Stave and it must have had its toll on the system since its been so dead. Its a shame since its only 12 mins from my house. Chum should be coming in shortly.

Just remember that with the new highway they are building that parking is limited at the mouth. You can no longer just park on the side of the road. The toilet bowl holds nothing but boots since its only a few feet from their spawning grounds. The best place is if you have a boat and fish infront of the mills as its the best coho spot on the river bar none. Their is only room for about 3 people at the mouth so be early or you wont have a place to fish.

I fished the toliet bowl a lot last year.  Caught some chrome coho, coho and spring jacks as well as chum.  Caught them on roe and spoons.  I never hooked any dark coho. Also, were would you launch a boat to fish the stave. Thanks.

Haney marine near the Albion ferry 15 to 20 min run at 30 mph it's at the end of Mackay Ave. As for there being no coho there it's way to early they come in a month from now near the peak of the chum run the spots listed above are good but last year I seen a 17 lb Coho taken half way up on the east shore by a local guiding co. I witnessed it being caught nice fish toilet bowl can be very productive for Coho if you can stand the crowds and get through the Dogs.
