Stave River, Oct 3
« on: October 03, 2005, 03:44:46 PM »

Hi. This is actually my first report in this forum. Just got back from Maple Ridge, fished the Stave river. Off this week so I thought I might try some fishing. It was cloudy in the morning but was sunny when I arrived in the river.  Came to the river at 10:30 and went home at 1:30.  It wasn't busy, saw around 5 people fishing.  Saw one guy caught a chum.  Not so much jumpers yet.  In three hours time, hooked 2 and landed 2 as well.  Both chums. No Coho's or Spring.  I am using the orange striped spoon I bought from Rodney. Thanks Rodney!  :D  Finally caught some salmon this year. They are not chrome but I guess it's good enough for the smoker. All in all , beautiful day in the river, not crowded and no fish snagging. :)  Rodney, I will send you the picture.

Nope. It's the pullout before you go uphill towards the bridge that crosses the river.

Its still a bit early for the coho in this system. The chum will start coming in but not many coho if any yet.

me and troutslayer were there last night, after work. only had an hour of light/fishing time. We were trying for coho jacks after hearing in the shop that day that there were quite a few in there. I hooked 2 for sure. lost them up close. landed a whitefish of about a pound. troutslayer got a few bullheads adn a whitefish. LOTS of chum and a few coho rising.

went to the stave this morning - beautiful day

have not fished there for the last two years - had a great time when I did though

today, I found every snag possible - never had that problem there before

fish jumping right in front of me and I am snagged on something - bummers

Close to the dam - just where there is that small off-shoot to the left heading towards the boat launch

I have fished there many times before but never experienced as many snags as today

Stopped by today to have a look but overall not many showing.  People had been there for hours and had said they had not much action at all - even the attempting snaggers.  I could see a few splashing about below the dam and the spawning channel was pretty much empty.

Does anybody know any good spots to fish on the Stave if you have a boat?  Any tips appreciated.

What/where is the closest boat launch to the Stave?

I think there's one in Fort Langley. On the north side, Haney Marine on Mckay in Maple Ridge or the public launch around the Mission Bridge are the only ones that I know of.

Just got back from the stave. Fished for 2 hours from 10 till 12. LOTS of coho and springs jumping but were not interested in my pro-cured pink roe. Ended up getting a couple Boot chum.
