Browns Bay Chum Derby October 15/16
« on: October 18, 2005, 07:39:35 AM »

Went to the Browns Bay Chum Derby this past weekend with 30 other Fish BC'ers and had an awesome time. Left for the derby at 2am on Friday and got to Browns Bay at 10am. Saturday was the first day of the Derby and our boat brought in 10 chum and let me tell you these salt water chum are bright silver and big fighters. Taking us on some nice long runs. Everyone was catching fish and having a blast. Day 2 on our boat we caught our limit of 12 chum in 3 hours!!! I had one chum that peeled off 100 yards of my line straight out the back of the boat. We were the 3rd boat in that day and only 1 of the other 2 boats had their limit so we did pretty well on the last day.

We partied pretty hard on Saturday night and I sure felt it on Sunday morning LOL. The fishing was awesome, the food Saturday night was just great and the people were unbelievable. I will be attending next years event for sure.

Sounds like a good time!  I'll have to find someone with room in a boat and spare gear next year ;)

This is beautiful:

and like the person that posted it said "your tax dollars at work."

and I guess they were probably in and amongst the area with the most concentrated number of boats too.

Actually they stayed away from everyone. I had no problem with what they were doing. Actually they do this once a year. Most of the people are volunteers and to reward them for all their hard work they take them out for a day of fishing. It was the sealion that was the biggest problem of that day. It even took one of our friends fish and left her with the head.

I have no objection to them fishing either, it just looks funny, a cutter trolling around.

And it's a great way to reward some of the volunteers, hook a big fish, drop the zodiak to chase it, and let the other guys keep trolling. Good system  ;D

My uncle fishes off the coast guard ships. He catches small hali and snapper dunno how he lands them because its a much bigger boat that goes up and down bc.
