     encouraged by yesterday's first coho and today's sunshine, i decided to head to stave river again for more fun 
     arrived at the toilet bow( just below ruskin dam) at 1pm, tied with my green gibb croc, 3 casts later, fish on!  it found for a good 10 mins and i landed it. a male chum at around 12 pounds, he was hooked deep in the mouth, close to the gill! must be hungry eh.  i was gonna release it, but then gave it to an old fisherman beside me who wanted the fish.  a few more hookups after that but couldn't land them. lost a fish which was swimming down the stream (ouch not again!!!), gone was my green croc spoon as well.  I found that the green and blue gibb croc worked very well, more hits than other fishermen who fished wool or roes with float. one more thing to share, i find that casting the spoons upstream and retrieve it slowly while it was drifting downstream is the more effective way to entice the fish, wouldn't foul hook as much as well.
     things were a bit slow but hey the weather was just awesome, what a difference a day can make!  i kept switching spoons and at 4pm, with the silver croc, a wild rainbow about 9' hit it, landed it and the it was bleeding badly.    so i just kept it as it might not survive upon the release.  few more hits after that and i called it a day at around 6pm, head home for the game    
     Great experience again, this october seems to be a milestone month for me, caught my first salmon ever, it was a pink at the vedder, then the coho yesterday and chum today.  i could smell spring when i have my new equipments ready.

are you allowed to keep wild bows on the stave? . This happened to me with a wild steelhead. Completely swallowed my colorado blade,barbless hook and everything . the fish was bleeding badly , so I gently took the hook out without trying to damage the fish. I then tried to revive it for a long period of time. It had a little bit of kick to it but not much. So I had to let it back after a long period of time .

Note: If a fish dies accidental with no harm done by the fisherman, the fish still has to be released. <<<Aren't those the rules?

Well, I was encouraged by your report yesterday and headed to the Stave since everyrthing else is apparently chocolate.  Took all types of gear: Spinning, drift and fly.  My goal was the elusive coho on fly but I would have been just as happy with a chum.  A did get a few hits and briefly had one on but that was all.

I switched up afterwards and was successful with a nice jack spring on the famous gold hammered croc and two chum.  Here is a picture of the fish.



The fish was flashing like crazy as water clarity was excellent and my hopes were high for the 2nd coho of the season but I was quite pleased with this fellow.

A fine day overall, didn't get any clean chum but had 2 more of them spinning with the croc and two more on the drift rod.  Gotta love the way they fight.

Cody, you might be on to something here. I have never fished the Stave, but others that are more experienced in fishing this river, what are the Regs for this body of water?

Other side.  I just parked at one of those entrances around 945 this morning and starting walking up along the side.  Nothing really descriptive about where I was fishing except the fish took in slow water while I was casting into the faster flow.  Nice little scrap.  Jack #2 this year.

yo bud, were u the one who waded across the water and fished on the isolated land closer to the dam?

yeah, then u were the one i saw.. with the fish on the other hand.  not as much action today as compared to yesterday, but after two days of tough battle with the doggies, my rigth arm is sore now and palm so burned! haven't had this much fishing action for long time

I wouldn't say any more than 3 lbs for sure.  Only jack springs for me this year so far, haven't been able to land the big cousins but theres still time (as long as water levels drop).

Are there lots of chum tho?Cuz I was hoping to go tomro, but iunno if its worth my while. Could someone please answer that? I wanted to get a couple of doe chum for the roe..and meat. Becuase I have none left.
