Stave Oct 25
« on: October 25, 2005, 01:46:29 PM »

Again Chum after Chum hooked 30 more in a couple hours all in a faster run I was shooting the spoon slightly up stream and letting it flutter down river no retrieve at all  they were attacking the spoon aggressively. Hooked 70% in the mouth again went 8 casts in a row hooking 8 fish all in the mouth. Seen 1 Coho jump in two hours great fun but my arms are done headed home to rest up for tommorow.

Hello Legend,

Just wondering what shape the chum are in in the Stave?  I have never kept a chum before but I just bought a new Bradley smoker and from all reports, they are excellent smoked.  I just would like to get them in good shape.  Is there anybody fly fishing for the beasts?  Any info would be very much appreciated.

Take care and have a super day,
Peter :D

They are in good to horrible shape every incoming tide seems to bring in fresh fish I would think for the next week or so fresh chum should continue to enter the system with the flood tide. If you fish the slower water you will more than likely get the old boots but where there is good currents you will find the fresher fish as the old ones don't have the energy to stay in the faster water this is my opinion. I think the run will go later this year as it got going a week or so later than last year. I would think the peak of the run is here or will be any day now as the river is really boiling with chum right now as i said you can't keep them off your line get out there and enjoy this as it won't last for long.

Well behaved kid nice to see you spend quality time with him nice to meet the both of you as for bonking me it was funny like i said not shy at all. ;D   Roe kid all over the river i move around trying to find Coho either i walk the river or use my canoe or take my boat .But not one run in particular i try to avoid other anglers as i enjoy the peace and quiet. There are so many fishable areas it's fun to explore.
