me and a friend fished a popular fraser valley flow today, starting off just after first light. There were 10 or so other gents fishing the same set of runs in the morning and several shiny bright coho up to 12 or so pounds were caught in the first hour and half. small wool or roe seemed to be the magic ticket. As the day progressed, raining non stop, the morning crowd thinned out and were replaced by a new batch of anglers, funny, morning crowd looked like all retired guys, then the younger folk showed up for the second shift. getting past the halloween hangovers??  . I got two nice 8lbs coho and 1 big not so ugly chum, it was kinda wierd, there were almost no chum present in the set of runs we fished and we really had to pound the water to get the fish we did get. I fished colorados in different finishes, prime procured roe, natural cured roe and all my fish were caught on a single egg sized wool tye, blended from 3 colors from baby pink, sherbet pink and flame. All my fish came around noonish and deep in the tail outs, the bite was very subtle as well, except for that big buck chum, he friggen hammered it. All and all a very fine day fishin in the rain, saw probably 20 plus totally shiny chrome cohos and 5 or 6 slightly colored ones caught and a handful of chums and I am pleased to say I have not seen such a grand display of edicit and angler ethics from every guy we saw for a solid 10 hour period on any local flow in a very very long time.

Just goes to show, rain brings out the best in people (or keeps the clowns temporarily at bay  ).  Nice read, Thomas.  Now, where's that flow  !  I spent the day fishing the Squamish R. on Sunday.  Same thing there.  Lots a rain ... good-natured fisherfolk.  Fishing was awesome too.  I started with wool ties, but switched to blades and noticed the cleaner Chums were taking that offering, in fact often hammering it.  Must have brought at least a half-dozen or so chromers to hand.  Still waiting for my first Coho of the year  .  Might have to hit the Upper Squamish soon for some C&R Coho action  .

Nice read. There was another local flow on fire this morning. Two of us beached 7 chromers before 8:30. Including the only other angler, 9 of 9 were hatchery. Storybook day. Wool was the ticket.

Just to clear things up i recently said seasons over, i meant at the vedder, ive been to other local rivers and they seem to be happening.

Wish I could post a similar report. It was a day of firsts.November first at first light searching for allusive first Coho but got first Chum instead.
  Went slough fishing in the rain with crocs and spinners left my pink roe at home, sounds like my downfall. Didn't see any of the 5 or 6 other guys get anything either but all of them remained hopefull of fish still to come.
   Met some classy fishermen as well, maybe fishin in the rain is the way to go

golfnut.... i work at Berry's Bait, well actually I don't anymore after 5:30 this evening hehehe. Anyhow, I have also been the Berry's Bait telephone fishing report (formerly talking yellowpages) spokesperson for a couple years. Being that guy, I get calls all day about this seasons salmon fishing. One of the predominant comments from guys in store and folks on the phone is... "where are all the coho?" and "Geesh, what a bummer coho season, looks like the season is done".

so, that's why my post has the heading it does, Rodney is right, was definately not directed at you.
By the way , several solid reports from vedder regulars today, while not excellent fishing, there were some shiny bright clean coho caught today, mid to upper river and of the 11 hatchery fish I heard about I also heard about 5 wild coho. I am probably in contact with less than 1% of the guys on the river yesterday so I would bet there are many other lucky anglers too. Salmon up and down the coast are following a "late migration trend" and I'm thinking that those who stick it out on the chilliwack/vedder will have some good fish stories to tell. Last yaer during the early phase of steelheading I personally witnessed 7 or 8 shiny coho caught into late december, ALL were hatchery fish.

Sweet, Tom.  !  I'm pumped!  Canucks win and now I learn there's still Vedder Cohos to be had ... even in December!  Why does this work stuff always have to get in the way when there's more important things at hand!!!
