Hmm, i always wanted to try fishing up the rivers.... or where ever you guys get all the salmon -_-;.... never caught one before hehe. when ever i have the oppertunity to go i always pass it up and spend my day on a pier.... lol IM LAZY!!! anyways. an oppertunity is coming up for me this weeken. A buddy of mine is taking me up the cap... or something. The thing is im not that crazy about salmon fishing...... YET...hehehe so i dont have any tackle for it. but i guess that wont matter hehe maybe my friend can hook me up. as for the setup...

the ... most likey to be sutiable rod i got is a SHIMMANO CONVERGENCE 10'0 ft Spinning Rod. and a Shimmano SYMETRE line cap: [8lb = 240 yrd] with double paddles ofcorse ... my question is... Is that set up good enought to handle the fish up there? OR SHOULD I WHIP OUT MY 12 FOOT Shimmano HOLIDAY SPIN! lol. what line should i use. i have to choose from

12lb iron silk, 35lb Tuff line, 12lb Maxi ultra green???   and is a spinning reel of that size big enough to handle the fishies?

the 8lb test on the Shimano Symetre will be fine, what size is the reel? The Capilano coho are generally not too big, so in fact 8lb test is more than enough to handle these fish.

The 10' spinning rod will be ok too, but just slightly too long if you decide to do spinning in the river. It gets tiring after awhile.

i guess rodney is the only one who cares about jighead! lol... asian pride! woohoooo lol. the reel is size 4000, other ones i got are 2500 from Daiwa.... and as for rod. i also have a 8'6 heartland S... mmm thanks!

For your spinning reels is tension front adjust or back (adjustment knob)?

the shimmano is a RD reel with that pre set drag lever... *if u turn it way down u can pretty much freeline the spool.

as for the daiwas... they are FD reels.

FD reels is better for heavy weight and good fighter fish such as salmon.
Even a small reel ( 8lb test can hold only 150yrd) can be used for salmon fishing.
