BS...in Ont they used to have 2 major runs....spring and fall... the introduction of the Skamaina strain has opened a summer run as well...so basically there is fish in the river systems almost year round.....the rivers are fast water but smaller than I've seen on my trips to the LM....the Nicola river is a real good example of most but not all steel rivers in Ont...lots of oxbows....fast and slow water......most with dams within' a mile of the lake, with ladders ect....oh... the browns there run as well....my best brown was 14 lbs.....head was huge!!!!....personal opinion on best time to fish....after a torrential downpour when the water turns to chocolate milk....have had days when you hit 30 fish in 4 hours....but is tuff to land them in the higher water....if they hang in the hole...u'll prolly get them....if they make for the fast water...u'll never keep up with 'em....dam...I miss steel... :-\

BS....I fish Steel with a pin 'n noodle rod....mainline 6 lb maxima....leader 4 lb maxima....usually use Blackbird floats....and BB sized splitshot....and a tiny barrel swivel.....start with your float on the mainline(no lost floats this way when you break off on a snag or fish).....add 2 shot then swivel...add leader usually bout 4 ft....tie #16 Mustad Laser Sharp hook....then place shot on leader....first shot is about 18 in from hook....second shot is about 14 inches from first shot....3rd is bout 10 inches from 2nd.....the idea is to allow the weight to take your hook down....but still allow the hook to precede the rest of the setup as it drifts into the run.......so the fish see's the hook first....not after the float has passed over it and most likely spooked it....the closer to the float the closer the shot is spaced....keeps your float cocked and your bait downstream....often I'll replace the hook with a nymph pattern....often turns the trick....sometimes I'll tie a tiny bit of floss into the knot to add a lil attraction....peach is often a good color....in colored water go bright(chartruse) in clear water white-peach-orange is a good choice...I never use roe bags....but have been known to cook up a batch of single eggs...cos lets face it folks...most of these fish key in on single eggs...its whats on the plate for dinner most evenings...IMHO small baits and line causes more break offs....but generates way more hits...u know...the guy beside you says they ain't hittin'....as his 30lb mono blocks out the sun.....lol......but the best thing to have out on the flow is CONFIDENCE.....get some of that and the battles half won....your mileage may vary..... ;D

Your thoughts I don't think will be wrong!!!!! Depending on whether the steelies are affected by things like it seems the socks and coho were this year, that should be a great time to come!!!!! ;D ;D  By then I should also have some nice runs picked out for you!!!!!! ;D ;D

It is funny .. I have been reading some of the posts on this thread... I can feel the energy and excitement from everybody that I feel myself....that whole feeling of excitement on that long drive to the river... sometimes I can barely sleep the night before because I am so excited about hitting the flow!!!! and on those cold wintery days when there is no one around  just you and the falling snow... some wind rustling throught the trees.. and then wham!!! down goes the float .... it is hard to believe that we have this kind of opportunity so close to home!!!!!  I wish my girlfriend could understand a lil more the enthusiasm I show towards fishing... she can't understand why I need seven rods and six reels and a thousand dollars worth of gear!!  hahaha  and when I bring home a beautiful hatchery doe... all she can say is... it better not stink like fish in the kitchen when you are done  >:( :o ;D ;D ::) some people will never understand... that is why we have this site.. we are just a bunch of whackos that all understand eachother hahahaha  ;D
