Missing Coho
« on: December 31, 2005, 02:17:34 PM »

Hello, new to forum so a quick thanks for a great site and info . Anyway was fishing the Nic last month and met an enhancement society volunteer. He said over 400,000 Coho were caught at the Frazer mouth as a bye product of the chum fishery ? >:( Thats why only a few wild Coho were caught at the hatchery. Has anyone heard anything about this ... the Coho were thin at the Nic this year .

I heard it was off the north coast, there were lots there so there was an opening.

Another local stream had half the coho come up in the last month, before that it was slow. The recent rain in the past 3 weeks brought up more as November was dry.

Recent steel have arrived in the last few days, their early. Strange year

It's been a somewhat crazy year this year; most of the runs were late.

Come on guys-- this BS about the humongous numbers of coho  taken by the chum fleet is just that---BS.

Are numbers of south coast coho down this year??? yes- but but poor ocean conditions are the most likely reason.  The commercial fleet DID NOT take 400,000 coho off the Fraseer or in Johnson Straits .   :(

LOL!!!
I was just about to post the same thing!
People always want to blame someone else when the real reason-in fact the same reason over&over&over-is in front of their faces.
