Well, I just got back from my guided trip to the Stamp river. We had a good trip, I went with winter steel and Gooey and Bill. On the first day we just fished from shore on our own, we saw a few fish hooked and kept and I caught and released a wild doe.

The next morning we got up for a good breakfast in the lodge at Murphies and headed out. I was in a boat with Winter Steel and Rolli was our guide.  The river is high but with pretty good visibility. Rob had the first fish on and it was a wild doe that we kept in the brood stock tube.  Next I got a wild buck that also went in the tube. Finally as we were fishing small pockets against the banks, I got first cast through a spot were you just knew there would be a fish.  Sure enough down goes the float and fish on.  After a good hard fight I got a hatchery male that I kept. 

At the end of the day W.S. had 3 fish on and I had 4, plus the one from the day before. A good trip and I look forward to next year. gooey will probably add his account of the day later. Pictures are in my gallery.

 NICE FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was heading over to the island in the beginning of Feb. Was wondering how much for a guided trip down the stamp. Looking forward to fishing it.

Well unfortunately for Bill and I, we had far less success.  Our boat hooked 3 fish, only landing one, a nice 8-9 lb hatch doe...i will have to download the pics later.

That day on the river, there were 4 boats out with the murphy's.  Our boat hit 3, WS and BP boat hit 7, a boat with 3 anglers hit 4 fish, and another boat of 2 fishers had one. 

I saw the boat with 4 fish and they got theirs all in one stretch between 7:30-8:30,  they obviously found a nice little school of fish.  I believe almost all of WS and BP's fish came from the very upper end (between the bucket and stamp falls pool) in the morning from and assortment of pocket water, and our 3 fish were taken in 3 different pockets thru out the day.  I would say the fishing was spotty at best.   I have been told fish move into that systme in waves and simply put, we saw one small wave all day (the one boat of 4 fish).  IMHO and based on what our guide say, there aren't a ton of fish moving into the system right now.  Hence the lack luster results. 

While I was disappointed with the results (hooked fish), I was thrilled with our guide...he worked his my friend off trying to find us some fish.  He showed up with 6 different buckets of bait: natural color spawn sacks, red krill scented spawn sacks, salted sprimp, procured shrimp, chunked coho roe, and finally chunked steelhead roe - quite a buffet!!!!  He handled the boat with skill and we worked virtually the entire river from below "the bucket" to paper mill dam!!!  Our boat was even the last one off the water...he really gave us 110%, I simply think there just weren't a lots of fish to be had. 

Our guide had a great personality, real fun guy to drift a day away with and we picked his brains on baits and curing so I learned a lot - so indeed overall it was a good trip which I would recommend to pretty much anyone!

Man, I don't know about BP, Bill, or WS but when I lay down that night after drifting the high water, it still felt like I was bobbing down the stamp...made for some great dreams that night!

Hey Gooey, was your guide named Nick? We had him a couple of years back and he brought the buffet with him that time as well- great guy. How was the level of the Sproat when you were there? Fishable from shore right now?

I can also vouch for Nick! He's a good friend who I respect a LOT, and a damn fine rod on this system! Quite simply, if he only got you into a few, that's all there was to find.

As far as the Sproat, you'll need stilts to fish her from shore today! No kidding! The Stamp, all her trib's and the Sproat are all Ragin' Monsters right now, and it will take a few days of rainless weather before there's any improvement. IF it was workable, think I'd be home in front of the computor  Nope, the jets can have her for a while yet. This deluge simply has to end sometime,and when it does... Watch Out!!

yup, we did take a trip up the sproat yesterday...it was standing waves and white water side to side...there were 2 soft slots worth a few casts but no fish.

Nog, I visited my aunt on ravenhill and headinmg back to the lodge at 7:30 and Argle (which is 4 lanes wide) and it looked like the was a sheet of water half an inch thinck flowing down the entire street...it was brutal.  Needless to say the rive came up a foot over night and dropped to 2-3 feet vis; I guess we were lucky it didnt blow right out.

Nope, we fished a lot of tight little pockets...lots of casting onto short drifts and pockets tucked in the trees etc.  We stuck mostly to roe bags and the shirmp as they were tough and durable bates.
