BC Fishing License website is down. What to do?
« on: September 26, 2022, 07:28:29 AM »

I'm up on the Skeena system and, as a BC non-resident, need a daily classified waters license to fish most Skeena tribs and the mother river. Since at least midday Sunday (18 hours ago), the B.C. licensing portal has been down. Under this circumstance, it looks like the options are to fish without a daily permit (and buy one for the day after the fact), or sit it out.

Does anyone have any guidance

Tough position, Snagly.

Whatever I say should not be construed as legal advice😀

Try this:

If the online help text doesn’t answer your question, you can contact the Help Desk by:
• phoning toll free 1-877-855-3222 from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or
• sending an e-mail note to the Help Desk at frontcounterbc@gov.bc.ca

Also, can you buy one from a vendor?

Failing that, I like your suggestion to fish anyways and make it whole afterwards. My suggestion would be to put something in writing and have it in your person that that is your intent. Or send your intentions to the above email address and keep a copy or the email on you.

Good luck!

Thanks, Clarki. That help line won't accept calls, but sites ARE down

I will send them an email, but they must be inundated.

One friend said to take a photo of the downed site with the time visible and the URL, and go fishing. Buy the daily permit once the site is back online.

If you can get into Terrace, there are fishing tackle shops that should be able to sell you the license you are looking for, and that includes Canadian Tire.  If you fish without the proper licenses in place you leave yourself open to the discretion of a fish and wildlife office if you are checked. Depending on how that individual feels that day will influence whether or not you get any slack from them.

I sent a message to the staff in charge of this after reading the thread this morning and it is back online now as of 20 minutes ago.

Confirming what's been reported by others:

1. You must have all the licenses before fishing. (Workarounds like photos of defunct websites and emails to the authorities are no guarantee of leniency.)

2. The website came back up around 10:10, making for some frantic typing!

Thanks to everyone who replied: quick and useful information.
