Alta Lake
« on: February 18, 2024, 02:19:58 PM »

Hi All,

I will be in Whistler Mid-April.

We will be staying near Alta Lake, will April be a good time of year to fish, looking to throw spoons and flies, will this work?

Do I need flashers? read they are used.

Thanks,

Depending on how early spring is, mid April is usually pretty good at Alta Lake. There are two species of fish which you'd be targeting - Rainbow trout and cutthroat trout. Rainbow trout are "native" to the lake, it's a self-sustaining population that was probably once planted long ago. Cutthroat trout in Alta Lake are stocked, and they are unique because they have the ability to grow pretty big (2, 3, even 4lb) unlike other stocked trout in the Lower Mainland. You should be able to find fish in the shallow waters by that time. Casting a spoon, or spinner, or tossing a balanced leech under an indicator, or stripping a leech should all work well.
