boat launch suggestions??
« on: August 18, 2008, 02:15:00 PM »

As the Fraser has dropped in previous years I have had problems launching at Island22 since I only have 2wd. Anybody able to suggest a better launch to use in lower water such as Aggasiz,Herrling or somewhere else close to Chilliwack?? Getting stuck has taken the relaxation factor right out of my day off fishing experience way to many times especially when I got stuck launching instead of retrieving the boat  last year. Any tips, tricks, suggestions are appreciated.

I got stuck there too but have come up with a solution and it works. ;D ;D

Get some old carpet and cut off 2 sections around 4 to 5 feet long and 3 feet wide.

Back up (close to 3 feet) to where you want to have your trailer positioned for loading the boat. Lay out your carpet behind your wheels and back onto the carpet you have layed out and when you have your boat loaded start in low gear. Do not go too fast at the start to prevent spinning and then your outfit will walk out and you will not worry again. ;D ;D

Good to carry in your vehicle when driving around gravel and muddy area's as well as when it snows and you get stuck in some deep snow off the beaten path.

Now you owe me an extra large double double. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Chris, I'll have to give it a try. I did something similiar a few years ago with expanded metal stapled to some plywood but all it did was shoot the plywood behind the truck. Carpet should cling to those rocks much better. How does the Agassiz bridge compare to Island 22?? Am I correct to  assume parking and break-ins are issues in that area.I recall the launch used to be nice and deep and you didn't have to sink your truck in order to get the boat off the trailer. Thanks

Best bet would be to give me a call and let me hook you up with a real truck ;D Kidding aside, do you pull straight down the launch or angle in. It can help a bit. The other launches upstream are hit and miss fo break-ins, usually pretty good, but theres always the odd time. How big of a boat are you launching?
