Fishing at Island 22
« on: August 16, 2011, 01:54:32 PM »

Hi everyone

With the sockeye season open the Island 22 Boat Launch is CRAZY busy and I just want to make sure there are no toes stepped on- horses or fishermen.

http://www.island22horsepark.com/fishingatisland22.htm

This weekend is expected to be busy for you guys and we have two small horse events happening as well. We need to share the parking areas.
The front parking lot was used last weekend for overflow boat parking.
This weekend it will be mixed with horse trailers.
Saturday there is a small jumper show. If the mower arrives early enough he will hopefully have much of the front field mowed and the trailers can park on the grass. If not you will need to share space.
My big issue is that the water tap in the corner near the gate houses remain clear with easy access for horses. To put it mildly horses can be very stupid and will spook because a blade of grass looked at him wrong. Please leave enough room for riders and horses to access that water hose. Thank you!!

Sunday is expected to be busier than Saturday. A lot of horses will be out training the course for our huge event on Labour Day weekend. So please be aware.
Thank you.

Please watch out for your dogs and keep them on a leash. There are three different types of horses:
1 - looks at the dog and considers it no more harmless than a fly.
2 - looks at the dog and sees an evil monster about to attack him. This horse will dig deep to its natural flight instinct with no thoughts to the safety of its rider (usually a child).
3 - looks at the dog and lines up its hind legs for a perfectly aimed boot to the head that has killed many dogs in the past. (my mom's horse was good at this.)

Thanks everyone!!

We will be sitting down with the FVRD and the Gatehouse in preparations for the Labour Day Event. Last year was a gong show with sockeye still open and 182 horses on the property with well over 400 people on the horse side alone. I will pass on any info that is relevant to you to make everything go smoother.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the heads up. My pug has a tendancy to either;

1. ignore the horse
2. try to get a good hold on whatever hangs down
3. urinate on the horses leg

Labour Day Weekend!

Big Fishing weekend at the park and HUGE equestrian weekend at the park.
We have 130ish horses arriving on Friday. A few tonight from Alberta.

There will be no overflow Fishing trailer parking in the front parking lot.
If required FVRD and the gate house will have fishing vehicles parking in the dog walk parking area but limited as this weekend is always busy with spectators.
There is a parking area that has been mowed just before the park gates - there will be NO fishing vehicles allowed in there. It is the volunteer and spectator parking for the Horse Event.

This is our 24th Year of the Island 22 Horse Trials and in all that time the sockeye season has only been open on this weekend a small number of times. We have never had any issues with fisherman in the past - the FVRD just panics about the number of vehicles that show up.
We are not anticipating any issues between us.

There is a concession on site.
Dogs on leash.
And there is a big BBQ and Dance with live music on Sunday evening if you would like to join us. Buy your BBQ tickets at the show office across from the ring before you head out on the river and then come back and have supper.  ;D and music. (Office is the big trailer parking in front of the ring.)

Come on out and watch! Bring the kids.
Saturday is the technical dressage.
Sunday is the overly exciting Cross Country. This is where they gallop through the water and over the big jumps.
Monday is the make or break challenge in the main ring over jumps.
