Caught lots of pile perch in my youth. Those are the biggest pile perch I've seen. Delicious.

When I posted this  http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=43554.msg413419#msg413419 several years ago, you were very interested in the fishery so I'm glad you got the opportunity to experience it.  Fishing the open surf of the North Pacific is quite exciting; especially when there are big fish that pull back.

Your next assignment...fly fishing for them!

I actually spend many winter months fishing for Red tail surf perch in Ocean shore, West Port and Pacific beach in Washington state in last couple years. A least I don't get skunked. Very generous limit of 12 perch. Basically I used a Carolina rig and Berkley sand worm works wonder. I love pan fry those tasty perch.

They are a fun fish to catch for sure, but I found the meat to be bland and mushy when cooked.

The couple times I have cooked them since I used a fish cake recipe that was excellent.
