May 24th, 2005: 3rd Annual Como Lake
Festival
From Como Watershed Group:
The Como Watershed Group announces its 3rd annual Como Lake
Festival Sunday June 5th, 2005!
Kicking off Environment Week! Come join the Como Watershed Group
for its third annual Como Lake Festival, a celebration of the Como
watershed and local community. This event kicks off environment
week in Coquitlam and includes a host of fun and interactive events
for the whole family. Last years festival drew over 400 residents,
and provided an opportunity to develop an understanding of the link
between natural wild spaces and urban spaces in our community.
This years festival will be held on Sunday, June 5th from
11am until 3pm at Como Lake Park, located Southwest of Gatensbury
& Como Lake Avenue. All events are free to the public (except
Build A Bird Box, for which there is a nominal charge), and will
include workshops, live entertainment, and childrens activities.
An Enviro-Raffle, Colouring Draw, and 50/50 draw will also be held.
Over $1000 in prizes are available to be won, including pottery
by internationally renowned artist Judy Burke.
Highlights of this years festival will include a Live Raptor
Demonstration, a Medicinal Plant tour, a seminar on Organic Gardening,
and exhibits featuring the artwork of local naturalists Kyoshi Takahashi
and Douglas Charles.
Activities for children will include arts and crafts stations,
face painting, and live entertainment by the Galliano Island Conservancy,
and local artists Mr. I and the Rainbow Singers.

We are now a registered Charity!
The "CWG" has recently received its charitable status
and hopes that the community will consider investing in the continued
work the Society does in the watershed through a tax deductable
donation. The Como Lake Festival is one opportunity for you to make
a donation and meet other watershed members and our board of directors!
A membership/donation form is available along with our most recent
newsletter on our events page.
