A resolution dialogue process between Fraser Valley anglers and First Nations has been proposed and planned. The proposed meetings will be facilitated by Jessica Bratty of Fraser Basin Council. DFO and RCMP will also be present at these meetings. The recreational anglers are represented by selected members of the Upper Fraser Sportfishing Advisory Committee. The goal of these future meetings is to create better understanding between both user groups of the same resource and eventually develop a better management of the Fraser River fisheries.

The process to date has included:

• September 2004 – March 2005: First Nations and angler groups identified the need for direct dialogue;
• March 2005: Anglers met and identified six representatives to the process;
• April 2005: DFO sent a letter to First Nations requesting a representative to the process;
• April – May 2005: Fraser Basin Council asked to facilitate exchange, conducted initial scan of issues and concerns among all parties;
• May 24, 2005: Stolo Tribal Council letter to DFO requesting input from anglers on four key questions of concern;
• May 31, 2005: Recreational anglers met to address the questions of concern; and
• June 14, 2005: Letter from anglers to First Nations outlining their responses to the questions. See letter (PDF file).
