A video feature on the Learn to Fish program

Published on Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

We just finished producing a video feature for Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC‘s Learn to Fish program.

Learn to Fish is an exciting initiative designed to introduce participants to recreational fishing. The age specific, fun, and hands on lessons make it a perfect fit for youth and their families as well as organized groups of all ages and abilities. To date the program has been a tremendous success, and has been delivered to over 55,000 youth and their families across the province!

Currently the Learn to Fish program runs out of two of the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC’s Visitor Centres located in Abbotsford and Fort Steele (near Cranbrook), Greater Vancouver urban lakes, the Lower Mainland, Kamloops and Okanagan region Provincial Parks, and Southern Vancouver Island region lakes.[/p]

2010 BC Family Fishing Weekend

Published on Monday, June 14th, 2010

June 18th to 20th is BC’s Family Fishing Weekend. During these three days, if you do not have a freshwater fishing licence, you can obtain a free licence and fish at lakes and rivers across British Columbia! Please note that freshwater regulations still apply while you fish with a free licence. There will be many community events happening as well. You can find a listing of all the events on this page.

On Saturday June 19th, we’ll be visiting the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery for its family fishing day and hatchery open house, starting at 8:00am. We’ll also be dropping by the Greg Clark Memorial Fishing Derby at Cultus Lake. On Sunday June 20th, we’ll be setting up a booth at the Rice Lake fishing day in North Vancouver, organized by the Seymour Salmonid Society.

Plenty of excitement in one weekend, we hope to see you at these events!

2009 Chilliwack River fall salmon fishing season information

Published on Friday, September 18th, 2009

As usual, I have started a thread on the discussion forum for this year’s fall salmon fishing season on the Chilliwack River. The thread starter contains basic background information of this fishery such as target species, fish identification, fishing method, regulations and etiquettes. The hope is that throughout the season, readers will continuously provide updates of water condition in the thread, which can only be beneficial to all Chilliwack River anglers.
