Cultus Lake Pikeminnow Fishing Derby
Posted on June 7th, 2006 by Rodney Hsu, webmaster
The
Fraser Valley Salmon Society is proud to present its annual All
About Fishing Family Event, including the northern pikeminnow derby
at Cultus Lake on Saturday June 17th.
Both adult and junior categories are available. Prizes are awarded
in each category to the largest northern pikeminnow. Two special
prizes are also available for anglers who catch a tagged northern
pikeminnow.
Derby begins at daybreak. Weigh-in stations and other activities
are located at the main beach of Cultus Lake.
Ticket prices are $5 each for adults (age 16 and over) and $2 each
for junior (age 15 and under).
Advanced tickets are available at:
- Fred's Custom Tackle
- Chilliwack Dart and Tackle
- Cascade Supply and Marine
Tickets will also be available on derby day from 6:30am to 10:00am
at the main beach.
All participants are entered in raffle draws. Other fun beachside
activities will also take place during the derby on the main beach.
The All About Fishing Family Event is sanctioned by the BC Family
Fishing Weekend Society and is held on the BC Family Fishing Weekend.
No freshwater fishing licence is required to participate in this
event but all applicable
freshwater regulations will still be in effect.
Northern Pikeminnows only!
Please be aware that only northern
pikeminnows are to be killed during this derby and all other
freshwater species should be released. The explosive population
growth of northern pikeminnow in Cultus Lake poses a great threat
on the Cultus Lake sockeye salmon. This derby is part of a program
that is designed to reduce the population of northern pikeminnow.
