The Seymour Salmon Hatchery is ready to release steelhead smolts into the Seymour River on May 20th and 21st. Volunteers are needed to load fish into the transport truck and release them into the river.
Wednesday (20th), the hatchery will be loading two trucks with steelhead smolts. One truck will be releasing fish into the river then coming back for a second round of fish that will be driven to West Vancouver. The other truck will be loaded up with steelhead and then barged from Cates Park all the way to Point Atkinson where the steelhead will be released. Volunteers can help from about 9:30am to noon or 1:00pm
Thursday (21st), the hatchery will be releasing the last two ponds into the river as usual. There will be one truck but two trips will be taken. Volunteers can help from 9:30am to 1:00pm or 2:00pm.
Since volunteers will be loading scoops of steelhead, it is probably best that volunteers don't have any back problems. If interested, please contact the hatchery.
