Volunteers at the Seymour Salmon Hatchery have set up traps to collect pink salmon on the Chilliwack River last week. To restore the pink salmon population on the Seymour River, the hatchery is collecting pink salmon from the Chilliwack River for their brood program.
The Seymour Salmon Hatchery is looking for volunteers to collect spawning pink salmon from the trap on the Chilliwack River on September 25th, 29th and October 2nd. The fish will be collected and moved to the Chilliwack River hatchery. As we approach October, fish will become ripe and need to be spawned. The hatchery plans to spawn 2,000 pairs!
If you are interested in helping out in the collection, moving or spawning parts of this project, please contact Ed Walls at the Seymour Salmon Hatchery to find out the meeting time of these dates.
