This is devastating news for volunteers who have invested many hours in the past four decades rebuilding a small salmon run in Port Moody. Community hatcheries like Mossom Creek Hatchery can be found across the Lower Mainland, where coho and chum salmon are raised to be released into small urban streams. These small operations restore urban salmon populations, serve as educational centres and provide additional recreational fishing opportunities.
Once the smoke clears and cost of rebuilding is determined, we will keep you informed on how the recreational fishing community can support financially.
